North End Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine

Philip Barlow is the founder of North End Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. He is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist by the Massachusetts Board of Medicine, is board certified as a Diplomate by the National Commission of Certification for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and is a member of the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Society of Massachusetts (AOMSM). Philip also currently assists in teaching a class on Neijing Studies and Classical Chinese Acupuncture at the Xinglin Institute with Dr. Edward Neal.
Philip earned his Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) from the New England School of Acupuncture, the oldest accredited institution in the United States. He has studied both Chinese and Japanese acupuncture styles, with a strong focus on orthopedic acupuncture, as well as Chinese Herbal Medicine. He has received advanced herbal training with renowned Chinese medical practitioners, Dr. Winnie Chow and Yan Ping Jin, as well as celebrated herbalist Heiner Fruehauf.
Philip also received specialized training in the treatment of digestive complaints and Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS). He has studied extensively with Dr. Jake Fratkin, the preeminent figure in the treatment of LGS using Chinese Medicine within a functional medicine model.

During his clinical training, particularly at Boston Medical Center, Philip worked in conjunction with allopathic physicians to provide both Eastern and Western methods of healing patients. This experience helped lay the foundation for his integrative medical approach.
Philip also has a background in pain management having previously been a Licensed Muscular Therapist, and enjoying a successful private practice in Boston for over eight years. In addition, he has always been an active athlete which has provided expertise in injury recovery and pain management. Prior to his Master’s degree at NESA, Philip attended Tufts University where he received his BA in Psychology and was also the starting point guard for the basketball team. During this time he sustained a number of physical injuries, successfully treating them with both Eastern and Western modalities.
In treating his patients, Philip pulls from all of these experiences to provide a truly holistic and integrative style. He emphasizes a results-oriented approach and encourages his patients to take an active role in their health care. He regards each patient as a unique individual, using a wide range of diagnostic tools and treatment options to optimize results. These may include acupuncture, Chinese herbs, laboratory testing, Gua Sha (the scraping of the body using jade stones), moxibustion, cupping, Tui Na (an Asian form of massage), electro-acupuncture, as well as orthopedic testing, blood pressure monitoring, dietary and lifestyle modifications.
Philip opened North End Acupuncture in 2014 to provide an affordable and effective healthcare option to a neighborhood in need of alternative medicine choices. Since then, the clinic has grown to become an integrated healthcare provider in the community and city of Boston. North End Acupuncture has been honored to be named a finalist for Best Acupuncture in Boston by Boston A-List.

Johnston Family Acupuncture - Pain & Fertility Specialists

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to treat various medical conditions such as back and neck pain, stress, and infertility. Johnston Family Acupuncture offers traditional acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping therapy, and electroacupuncture in Boston, Massachusetts.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles to various depths through the patient's skin, at specific points on the body. Based on the concept that a vital energy called Qi (“chee”) travels along 14 main pathways, illness or pain occurs when this energy flow is blocked or weakened. Stimulating acupuncture points along the meridian restores the balance in the body, helping to relieve symptoms and promote wellness.
